Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per bend Gules (Brick Red) and Or a wheel surmounted in bend by a barbed Hawaiian spear issuing from sinister base all counterchanged.  Attached below and to the sides of the scroll a Brick Red scroll turned Gold inscribed HELE KAKOU MAO in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The colors golden yellow and brick red are for Transportation.  The wheel which is symbolic of the Battalions function is counterchanged, alluding to land and sea transportation, while the spear alludes to air transportation.  The spear is a barbed Hawaiian one to denote the Battalions activation in Hawaii.  It also symbolizes swiftness and speed.  The motto translates to Lets Go Over There.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 January 1958.
